Date: 2009-05-04 05:27 am (UTC)I don't know it you've seen it but there is a clip floating around with Kirk, Spock and Scott on the bridge and Kirk in it is just like testing Spock, how much he'll take from him, how far he can challenge Spock. I think that idea is so
hotinterest and a want a bit of that in the movie. But like you were saying what I'm really invested in is them becoming a duo a team the yin and yang they are in TOS.I'm so excited!

I'm seeing the movie on Mother's Day :P. My Mum's loved Star Trek since the 70s, and now that I've gotten into it, it seems like a good way to spend Mother's Day. I wish I could see it earlier though, but I'm busy on all the other days.
I'm thinking that ther'll be a lot of slash in this movie. Maybe not quite he same kind of slash that's in the series, but there has to be some slash. I think I know the clip you're talking about, is it the one where Spock goes "I won't allow you to lecture me" or something like that, and Kirk goes "The why don't you stop me?" and then Spock grabs Kirk's neck. On the one hand, it seems very out of character, but on the other hand, it reminds me of This Side Of Paradise, when Kirk realizes that the cure for he spores is anger, so he provokes Spock and then Kirk gets

Your flirting is near deadly’. I don’t know about the new dynamic but I’m cautiously optimistic.

Date: 2009-05-05 09:52 am (UTC)Funny you should mention TMP, I just saw it yesterday and am now making a fic about it, and about why Spock cried on the bridge (I couldn't believe it when I saw that. I thought it was very OOC!)
I'm quite liking the love/hate relationship that seems to be developing for the movie. It's not quite the same as their relationship in the series, but it's possible to think that they may have started out that way, and yeah, their hate is just so laced with sexual tension that it isn't even subtle. The way Kirk is looking at Spock, he doesn't even look like he dislikes him at all. He's enjoying it so much that it's almost foreplay.

Date: 2009-05-07 03:37 pm (UTC)There was a 20 to 1 the other day that showed the top 20 TV couples. It had Xena/Gabrielle but not Kirk/Spock! I couldn't believe it!
For me it kinda felt like they were trying to fix Spock by having him accept his emotions, but he didn't need fixing, he was fine the way he was. I thought he expressed more emotion with the simple raise of his eyebrows than he ever did when he cried. He was back to his old self again in the rest of the movies though. But I did rather enjoy the overwhelming slash of it all. And the way they tiptoed around the fact that V'ger needed love. They were saying everything else, it needs a parent, it needs a god, it needs meaning, it needs humanity, it needs this, it needs that... But it was pretty obvious that it was meant to be love, which was why it had to be Captain Decker who joined with it, because he loved... I can't remember the bald chick's name. But they went out of their way to avoid saying it. It's almost like if they admitted it was love, then they'd have to also admit that the 'simple feeling' that Spock was talking about was also love. It pretty much felt like that movie was made solely for the slashy subtext.
Maybe Kirk's an exhibitionist. He likes the audience...

I get see it like they were trying to 'fix' Spock by making him cry but I don't see it as that so much as it being a sort of like a geyser his emotion are always there but sometimes like they just become to much for him, we saw something like that in 'Naked Time' when he began crying and hit Jim.
side note: All props to Xena and Gabbs but how can they have a list like that without K/S that's like unholy.@_@

Although I watched it a long time ago, and I didn't really get into it, it was just something that I watched cause it was on, so maybe it did become cannon and I was too young to realize.

Just kidding I get ya about him showing his emotion on the bridge but I see it as him taking away some of the dams he has built up over the years that he's feeling more comfortable with his emotions. That it's a sort of break down like in Naked Time but because over his time with Jim, McCoy and all the crew of the Enterprise he has learned that emotions aren't dirty or wrong. So Spock feels like on the Bridge with Jim, Sulu, Uhura and even McCoy is a safe place where if he can yell or cry. But either way you watch that scene it's very K/S and has uber sweet Kirk.
Xena/Gabrielle cannon or not....I don't they have kissed like twice or something I think I don't know if they ever became "cannon" but it seemed like they did...
So excite to watch some sweet sweet Wrath of Kahn vid ^_^
